The Guyana J-REDD+ project, managed by the Guyana Forestry Commission, aims to reduce deforestation and degradation across 18 million hectares of national forest. It has issued over 40 million carbon credits between 2022 and 2024.
As of February 2025, the project has an MSCI Carbon Project Rating of "A", indicating a moderate to high likelihood of delivering credible emissions reductions and social benefits.
This reflects high additionality due to the baseline appearing conservative, but faces challenges in quantification due to potential overestimation of carbon stock density.
